The Hutong School was founded in April 2005 in response to the growing demand of Western students, graduates and young professionals for internships and Chinese language courses in Beijing. We are committed to creating new opportunities for young talented students by linking them with both Chinese and international companies in Beijing.

Through our programs, we aim to enhance our students’ understanding and knowledge about Chinese language and Chinese culture. The location of the Hutong School in a traditional courtyard in the old centre of Beijing shows the importance we attach to an authentic Chinese atmosphere. The goals of CET’s Beijing Chinese Language program are twofold: rapid improvement of language skills and a solid understanding of contemporary Chinese society. Weekly themes integrate the intensive curriculum–a lecture class might introduce the “Chinese family”; family planning policies are debated during drill class; students interview a Chinese family for language practicum. Our Chinese language programsare designed to immerse participants in Mandarin through class instruction, individual tutoring, and a unique language exchange with native Mandarin speakers through our partner program.
